Day 8: Duluth and on to Minneapolis
Monday morning we got to see a 1000 foot freighter head out onto the lake. Carrying 60,000 tons of iron ore, the Tegurtha was massive. We watched the bridge raise over 100 feet in the air. The ship approached and blew its horn, one long and two short, and the bridge answered. It glided past us, only 20 feet away.
Then it was time to pack up and head out. We were all sad to leave, but it was comforting to know we'll see our friends soon when they come to Boston at the end of the summer. Thank you D and E for your incredible hospitality, lovely weather, great hikes, delicious meals, and especially the wonderful conversations.
