The Asherman

We were walking to the local bakery when Mr. 3 asked when he would be old enough to cross the street by himself.  I told him 6 as is our custom.

"Okay, that's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.  And then I can cross."

That's right I told him.  So he counted a bit more and then said, "I like numbers. I'm a numbers guy.  And a letter guy.  Actually I'm just an Asherman."

A stroller review

Due to a moment of unfortunate absentmindedness on my part, we recently had to buy a new stroller. I had been mailing some boxes and took out the stroller to get to the boxes. In my haste I managed to leave the stroller behind, although I did manage to come home with all 4 kids. When I realized what had happened, more than 24 hours had passed, and the stroller was gone. It was a good stroller, and we were sad to see it go, but it seemed a great opportunity to upgrade. I looked around at strollers both online and in stores and decided the City Mini would be perfect for us, but the price was not so perfect for us. A little searching on Craig's list and we managed to find one for half the price that included the rain cover and snack tray. Hurray! After a week of the new stroller, I can honestly say that it's our favorite stroller we've had (and we've had a good many strollers). It handles well and you can control it with one hand. The seat lays flat, and the sun cover really covers the seat so Mr. 0 stays out of the sun. The basket at the bottom can hold a soccer ball or all the supplies you would need for an afternoon at the zoo (snacks, water bottles, diaper bag, rain coats, and our carrier). And the folding is so easy. You can easily fold it with one hand, and it's super easy to carry and folds quite flat. All in all, we would definitely recommend it!

A Trip to the Zoo

Today we decided to finish up school early and head to the zoo.  With the help of the pass from the library, we managed to get the 5 of us in for under $10 and decided that we would see what we could before the rain started.  Luckily it held off, and we were able to see most of the zoo (it's really not that big) and even have a little time at the end for the playground.  The highlights of the day were the snow leopard and black bear which were just inches away from us, the gila monster (Mr. 9's personal favorite), the baby monkey, the bats, and the Birds of Prey show.  Mr. 0 enjoyed it from the comfort of his new stroller and did well. He is too young to have any interest in the animals but Mr. 3 is just about the perfect age for our little zoo and had a great time.

Things I'm thankful for

I 've been feeling a bit cranky with the kids this week - cranky baby, whiny 7 year old, demanding preschooler - so I wanted to stop and remember how blessed I really am.

1. A great neighborhood bakery where we can duck in from the rain

2. Mr. 3 on his Glider Rider

3. Brother best friends

4. Ninja performances

5. Giggling baby on the swings

6. Playing Munchkin with Mr. 9 and his delight in winning

7. Dinner together

8. This Day in History

9. Unexpected hugs

10. Sleeping baby in my arms

Those are just the ones off the the top of my head.

Mr. 0's version of Happy Together

If you could pick me up and show you care,

Then I would snuggle you and pull your hair.

And you would carry me around most anywhere

So happy together.

Exploring the sand

Mr. 0 loved checking out the sand on the playground (without eating it).

Mr. 3 calls this his "Pianoguys" smile.  I'm really not sure why!

No crawling

Mr. 0 seems firmly of the opinion that walking is the way to go.  He is now an adept roller and can reach what he needs (including anything a brother has left nearby) and has no interest in crawling.  What he wants to do is stand and walk like everyone else in the house.  Luckily his big long arms make walking him around a little easier.

Teeth - the excuse for everything

Mr. 0 has not been at his best this week.  He is just getting tooth number 4 on top and I'm hoping that's the problem.  He has been taking short naps and waking up cranky.  This means I don't have time to get anything done and I'm stuck carrying a tired, cranky baby around for the rest of the afternoon.  Mr. 3 is also extra tired making for lots of demands and screaming when those demands are not met (today he screamed for a good 20 minutes because he wanted 2 yogurts - demanded before the first was even open).  Somehow we muddle through and the big brothers have doing their best to help out.

Hanging out with the cousins

Mr. 0 had fun hanging out with the cousins today.  It was 87 here today so they even spent some time hanging out in the pool in Aunt B's backyard.

And guess who has 3 teeth?  It looks like his other top tooth is just about to pop through as well so hopefully he'll be all done before we get in the car in June.

Midwest storms

New England has its share of storms but there's nothing like a good thunderstorm in the Midwest.  You can watch it rolling in, the wind picking up and the clouds swirling above you.  The first rain drops arrive and you run for cover but you keep watching the clouds and listening to the thunder.  We even had to go to the basement when the tornado siren went off but it quickly blew over and we came up to the sun shining.

A trip with Mr. 0

We had big plans to drive our to Indianapolis in April to see the cousins but then the reality of driving the 15 hours with Mr. 0 who is not fond of the car finally dawned on us and we decided that I would just take Mr. 0 by plane for a short visit.  So this morning Mr. 0 and I headed out, leaving David and the older 3 at home for prototype week.  Mr. 0 has proved a champion traveler and enjoyed breakfast on the airplane (with more in his belly than on me) and making friends with surrounding passengers.  We're excited to be able to wish cousin A happy birthday in person.
