Day 6: Duluth

We arrived in Duluth very late Friday night with friends waiting on the porch to greet us.  The kids were excited to see their friends and it took a bit to settle everyone down.  We hoped they would sleep in,  but Mr. 7 was still up bright and early,  excited to go downstairs and see who was awake.

We headed out to Gooseberry Falls.  It's a beautiful spot with rocks to climb (an activity the boys never tire of) and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day.  We hiked downstream to where the river opens up into Lake Superior.  The wind was chilly and fog still hung over the lake.  We ate lunch overlooking the lake and then climbed down to the water.  While the boys climbed more rocks, those of us who were chilly soaked up the heat on the pebbly shore.  It is impressive how much warmer it is sitting on warm rocks.

Back at the house, Mr. 9 pulled out Sentinels of the Multiverse and our friends O and I happily agreed to a game.  Thus began an epic battle of good and evil that lasted until minutes before we got in the car on Monday afternoon, with the older crew defeating different supervillans from their paths of destruction.  Whenever there was downtime, they would pull it out and start a new game.  In between there was jumping on the trampoline, building with magnetic blocks and legos, and watching My Neighbor Tortoro.

That night we had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful friends of our friends and enjoying a delicious dinner outside.  The kids happily played together, running in and out, while the adults talked, enjoying the beautiful evening until the chill drove us inside to finish our conversations by the fire.
