Day 2: Niagara Falls and on to Toronto

Everyone was too excited to sleep so, despite going to bed ridiculously late, we were all up early.  After discussing our options, the boys decided they really wanted to go to Cave of the Winds.  So we loaded up the car (after a quick trip to the pool where Mr. 0 let us know that cold water was not acceptable and the older 3 had a grand time) and headed back to America.  On our border crossing into Canada the night before we had been asked the standard questions (how long are you here, where are you staying, wow four boys), but the return to the USA required a bit more interrogation.  They asked each child a question except Mr. 0.  She asked if Mr. 3 talked and then asked him who was driving the car.  She asked Mr. 3 who I was and he answered Rebecca.  When she asked him what he calls me, he looked like a deer in headlights.  "Mommy?" he answered tentatively and they let us in.

Cave of the Winds is a bit fancier than the last time we were here.  Not only do you don the standard poncho, but you also receive souvenir sandals.  We suited up and headed out.  It is nesting season at Niagara and we emerged from the elevator to find literally hundreds of gulls on the rocks with their young.  Mr. 3 kept pointing out the little chicks and we had to remind him that the mommy gulls will protect their babies so he should give them space.  Mr. 7 and Mr. 9 loved the walk through, relishing the spray on their faces and seeing the falls so close.  Mr. 3 was excited at first, but he became more unhappy as the walk went on and the wind picked up.  Mr. 0 quickly decided we were all crazy and went into baby shutdown in the carrier, sleeping through the whole thing, despite the near hurricane conditions.  In the end, our little troupe loved it, except for Mr. 3 who decided he didn't want to go on the hurricane deck a bit too late and had to be bribed with apologies and hot chocolate.

We wandered around the park a bit more, until the entire park (and actually the city of Niagara Falls as well) lost power.  Then it was time to head back to Canada.  We stopped at the whirlpool to watch the swirling water on our way, with Mr. 3 asleep in the stroller.

We discovered our hotel was quite near the airport with planes passing overhead every few minutes.  This may not be a selling point for some but our boys loved it.  There was a sliding door onto some grass and they happily ran around, pretending and admiring the planes.  The pool even had a skylight that you could watch the planes through!
