Thursday morning, we were ahead of schedule for the week, so we finished up our math and headed out on our first official field trip. It feels a bit odd to be out in the middle of the day with the kids--sort of like playing hookey, even though we were going to see the Islamic art at the MFA to supplement this week's history theme (Mohammed and the rise of Islam). There was less Islamic art than I remember, although we loved how they turned Arabic words into beautiful pictures--it reminded us of the illumination from last week. The boys quickly wanted to head for the ancient worlds and happily explored the Egyptian art (which has to be our most visited section). We enjoyed a beautiful lunch in the courtyard, and then headed back to the car. While we were climbing in one by one (it takes a while), the heavens opened, and it poured all the way home while I rode in back and read aloud our Famous Men of the Middle Ages for the week.
