This was not our best Saturday. Every Friday we assure ourselves that this week will be different. We are up late, enjoying time with friends, and then Saturday dawns and our cranky house makes us question our sanity. This one was especially rough because the sickness that had been with us earlier in the week continued to wipe everyone out, particularly Mr. 2. But when I look back these are the memories I want to remember.
Mr. 2 ended up sleeping with Mom and Dad and woke up late. He called for us and asked for a drink but didn't get up. He just laid in bed and was still which was unsettling. He finally came out to the living room and laid on the couch while I went to start breakfast (hockey practice was over and Mr. 9 was on his way home). While I made breakfast, Mr. 11 read to Mr. 2. Mr. 9 arrived home and made Mr. 2 a bed of pillows and collected all his special friends to snuggle with him with Mr. 4 helping out. The brothers were so eager to take care of him.
This evening Mr. 4 realized that he wouldn't be going to play laser tag with his big brothers tomorrow (their rather belated birthday celebration). There were lots of tears and Mr. 2 immediately came over to hug him. He told us that "Ashee. Nose. Eyes. Hair." When Mr. 2 gets hurt and you ask him where it hurts, he immediately points to his nose, eyes, and hair, even if he fell and scraped his knee. Clearly Mr. 4's nose, eyes, and hair must be hurting if he is crying. When hugs didn't help, he ran to his bed and began bringing Mr. 4 his special friends - bear, baby, frog. Mr. 4 wasn't very receptive at first but after the second or third friend was deposited in his arms he perked up. The two brothers began laughing at Mr. 2's current favorite joke "boo boo". What could be a funnier word.
Seeing these boys take care of each other makes the rest of the day seem a bit easier. Not easy, mind you, but a bit easier. Now if only Mr. 11 can get a good night sleep...
