Yesterday we spent the day enjoying the beach up in Gloucester. Somehow we made it to the end of July without hitting the beach which was well-evidenced by the sunburns everyone sported by the end of the day (actually we all managed to end up with those random sunburn spots where the sunscreen didn't reach - for Mr. 2 and Mr. 8 those spots were just under their eyes leaving them with handsome red raccoon eyes). Turns out we needed the inspiration of our good Minnesotan friends who know how to enjoy a good day at the beach. It was lovely to be able to explore the rocks, do some much needed saving of the planet, watch as the tide slowly went out, dig numerous engineering feats, chat in the sun, play a little frisbee without any concern for time. Around 4pm we reached low tide and hiked out to the sandbar where we found all sorts of treasures including a dead ray, a clam that squirted water at us, numerous crabs and snails. I can't imagine a more perfect summer day except perhaps one that had involved a bit more sunscreen!

Ah, the beach is something we very much miss. We have some lakes in the area, but the drought has made them all too low for much fun. So glad you had a good day! I've been thinking of you.
